In a significant move aimed at easing the lives of Pakistani citizens, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced major reforms in the issuance process of Succession Certificates. These changes are expected to eliminate geographical hurdles and bring much-needed efficiency to the inheritance documentation process.
As per the latest notification issued by NADRA, legal heirs are no longer required to apply for a succession certificate in the province where the inherited property is located.
- Citizens can now submit their succession certificate applications at any of the 186 Succession Facilitation Units (SFUs) established nationwide.
- These SFUs are available across Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
- Biometric verification can be completed at the nearest NADRA center or remotely via the Pak ID Mobile App, offering flexibility and saving time.
Previously, the process was restrictive:
- Applicants had to apply only in the province where the property was situated.
- Even though biometric verification via mobile was introduced earlier, the application submission was still province-bound, causing delays and inconvenience—especially for heirs living far from the property location.
This development is a game-changer for legal heirs across the country:
- No more traveling across provinces just to initiate the legal process.
- The entire application and verification can now be handled locally or remotely.
- It reduces backlog, speeds up certificate issuance, and provides a more citizen-friendly experience.
According to NADRA officials, formal notifications have already been dispatched to all 186 SFU-equipped centers to ensure smooth implementation of the new rules.
The move has been widely welcomed by the public and legal experts, with many praising NADRA for taking a tech-forward, people-centric approach. This also aligns with the government’s broader digitalization agenda, aimed at modernizing bureaucratic procedures and promoting ease of access.
