The Consulate General of Germany in Karachi has officially resumed all German visas and consular services for non-European Union (non-EU) citizens, including Pakistani applicants, after a brief and unexpected suspension that caused widespread concern.
The German Consulate had suspended its services on June 28, 2025, without citing specific reasons, leading to the indefinite cancellation of all confirmed visa appointments. Affected applicants were instructed to re-register via the online appointment portal, but no timeline was initially provided for service restoration.
However, in an official statement released on August 5, the consulate confirmed that operations are now fully functional and that applicants can once again proceed with:
- Work Visas
- Study Visas
- Family Visit Visas
- Other Consular Services
“The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Karachi has resumed normal operations for non-EU citizens,” read the statement issued by the diplomatic mission.
Those who had scheduled appointments during the suspension period are advised to re-book their slots through the consulate’s official appointment system. The resumption of services means students, professionals, and families awaiting visa decisions can now continue their travel plans to Germany.
The development brings relief to thousands of Pakistani nationals, especially students aspiring to study in Germany under new immigration policies launched earlier this year. Germany’s March 1, 2024 visa policy updates were designed to attract international talent, making this reopening a significant milestone for applicants seeking to benefit from new opportunities abroad.
The brief pause in operations had raised serious concerns among visa applicants, travel consultants, and families. Many feared longer delays or disruptions amid tightening global immigration policies.
Although the German Consulate never officially disclosed the exact reason behind the abrupt halt, some reports suggested it could have been due to security-related matters. The lack of clarity led to uncertainty and speculation, which the consulate has now addressed by resuming full services and thanking the public for their patience.
The resumption of German visa services in Karachi follows broader changes in Western visa requirements. Recently, U.S. consulates in Pakistan began requesting public disclosure of social media profiles from certain applicants. In contrast, Germany’s reopening is being viewed as a positive step toward facilitating easier and faster international mobility for qualified individuals from Pakistan.
