Historic Triumph: West Indies Clinch First ODI Series Win Over Pakistan in 34 Years

The West Indies cricket team has made history, securing their first bilateral ODI series victory over Pakistan since 1991 with a resounding 202-run win in the decisive third match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad. The emphatic result sealed a 2–1 series triumph, ending a 34-year drought.

Hope’s Record-Breaking Century Leads the Charge

Captain Shai Hope delivered a captain’s knock, smashing an unbeaten 120 off 94 balls, featuring 10 fours and five sixes. His innings marked his 18th ODI century, pushing him past West Indies legend Desmond Haynes (17) and placing him behind only Chris Gayle (25) and Brian Lara (19) on the all-time West Indies ODI hundreds list.

Hope’s late onslaught, in partnership with Justin Greaves (43* off 24 balls), propelled the hosts from a shaky 184/6 in the 42nd over to a commanding total of 294/6. Contributions from Evin Lewis (37) and Roston Chase (36) set the platform before the explosive finish.

Seales Destroys Pakistan’s Batting Line-Up

In reply, Pakistan crumbled under the fiery pace of Jayden Seales, who delivered a career-best 6/18, the third-best ODI figures in West Indies men’s cricket history. His opening burst left Pakistan reeling at 8/3, removing Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and captain Mohammad Rizwan for ducks. He later trapped Babar Azam lbw for nine, ending Pakistan’s hopes of a comeback.

Pakistan’s resistance came only from Salman Ali Agha (30) and Mohammad Nawaz (23), before they were bowled out for a paltry 92 in 29.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie chipped in with two wickets in the middle overs.

A Victory Steeped in History

This win not only ends a 34-year wait for a series victory over Pakistan but also stands as the fourth-largest ODI win by runs in West Indies cricket history.

Top 3 Best ODI Bowling Figures – West Indies Men:

  1. Winston Davis – 7/51 vs Australia, 1983
  2. Colin Croft – 6/15 vs England, 1981
  3. Jayden Seales – 6/18 vs Pakistan, 2025

Seales was named Player of the Series for his 10 wickets across the three matches. Hope praised his young pacer, calling him “a class act who always delivers when the team needs him.”

Pakistan’s Struggles Continue

For Pakistan, the series loss marks a disappointing end to their Caribbean tour. Skipper Rizwan admitted early wickets were the turning point, saying, “Seales made it difficult for us throughout the series. Losing three early wickets cost us the game.”

Looking Ahead

For the West Indies, this victory is a massive confidence boost as they aim to qualify for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, having missed the 2023 edition in India. With Hope’s leadership
