The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has officially declared Wednesday, 13 August 2025, as a local holiday within the revenue limits of the federal capital. The announcement comes as preparations reach their peak for Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day and celebrations of victory in Marka-e-Haq, the title given to the recent armed conflict with neighboring India.
According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, the holiday will apply to all offices and institutions within ICT, except essential services, which will operate as usual. These include the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Capital Development Authority (CDA), ICT Administration, ICT Police, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), and hospitals.
“August 13, 2025 (Wednesday), is hereby observed as Local Holiday within the revenue limits of the Islamabad Capital Territory except the offices of essential services in Islamabad,” the notification reads.
As part of the celebrations, Islamabad has been transformed into a vibrant display of patriotism and cultural pride. On the directions of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the city’s avenues, parks, and monuments have been decorated with national flags, colorful lights, artistic installations, and cultural displays.
From Constitution Avenue to residential neighborhoods, rooftops and streets are lined with green and white flags, while markets are bustling with stalls selling patriotic merchandise such as buntings, caps, and children’s outfits in national colors.

This year’s celebrations carry special significance following Pakistan’s success in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos under the Marka-e-Haq campaign. The recent military victory has further fueled the nation’s enthusiasm, with citizens preparing for grand festivities.
In an effort to maintain public order, the ICT administration has banned the sale and use of plastic horns (vuvuzelas or ‘bajay’) during the celebrations. Authorities have warned that violations will result in legal action.
Pakistan will mark its 78th Independence Day on August 14, 2025, with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, cultural events, and fireworks across major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar. Educational institutions will host debates, poetry competitions, and cultural programs, engaging the youth in patriotic activities.
