Punjab Launches Drone Rescue Service for High-Rise and Hard-to-Reach Emergencies

In a major step toward modernising emergency response, the Punjab government has introduced drone rescue services capable of saving lives in high-rise buildings, fire incidents, and remote or hard-to-reach locations.

The announcement came from the Punjab Home Department, which confirmed that the newly acquired drones can safely airlift stranded individuals from hazardous environments. During a live demonstration at the Civil Secretariat, the drone successfully lifted a 60-kilogram dummy in a simulated rescue mission.

The event was attended by Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, Punjab Home Secretary, IG Prisons, and other senior officials. Rafique called the initiative a “significant milestone” in strengthening the province’s Civil Defence capabilities, praising the personnel who act as frontline responders during floods, natural disasters, and emergencies.

Advanced Civil Defence Technology on Display

The demonstration also showcased cutting-edge bomb disposal and aerial interception technology. Specialised drones were displayed that can intercept hostile aerial devices, while bomb disposal robots were shown neutralising explosives in inaccessible areas.

Punjab Home Secretary emphasised the growing importance of Civil Defence in both peace and conflict, revealing that during recent Pakistan-India tensions, Civil Defence teams successfully neutralised 29 Indian drones. He also announced plans to launch a mobile app for citizen volunteer registration, aimed at strengthening public participation in emergency preparedness.

Meeting Global Rescue Standards

Officials confirmed that Civil Defence units are undergoing modern training to align with international safety and rescue standards. The drone initiative is expected to dramatically improve Punjab’s ability to conduct quick, safe, and efficient rescue operations in situations where traditional methods are difficult or dangerous.

With this latest upgrade, Punjab joins the growing list of regions using aerial technology for life-saving missions, setting a new benchmark for emergency response in Pakistan.
