NADRA Introduces Major Reforms in B-Form and Family Registration Process across Pakistan

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced major updates to the Child Registration Certificate (CRC) process, popularly known as the B-Form, along with key reforms to the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) policies.

These initiatives simplify the child identity registration, ensure legal validity, and offer a secure, structured national identity system for Pakistani families.

What is B-Form?

The B-Form, now officially referred to as the Child Registration Certificate (CRC), is a designated document for minors in Pakistan. It serves as a child’s legal identity until they reach the age of 18 Years required for obtaining a CNIC (Computerised National Identity Card). NADRA has now given the comprehensive CRC process, offering both online and in-person application options.

To obtain a B-Form for your child, Parents need to submit following documents:

• Parents’ original Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs
• Child’s Birth certificate issued by the Union Council or Cantonment Board
• Adoption certificate (if applicable)
• Citizenship certificate (if applicable)

How to Apply at NADRA Office

The application process for at the NADRA office involves several steps.

1. Get a token at the reception desk.
2. One parent provides biometric verification.
3. Submit child’s details, including photo and biometrics if applicable.
4. Review and print the application form.
5. Get the form attested by a gazetted officer or public representative.
6. Wait for the confirmation SMS, then proceed to pay the fee.

B-Form Fee Structure

NADRA has provided an option to facilitate parents with children under 1 year of age can now apply online for the B-Form through the Pak ID mobile app. This app allows parents to:

• Submit forms digitally
• Upload documents
• Make payments via Easypaisa, JazzCash, or e-Sahulat
• Complete biometric verification

This digital solution saves time and helps reduce crowds at NADRA offices.

In a recent policy shift, NADRA has confirmed that:

• Old B-Forms will no longer be accepted for passport applications.
• A new CRC is mandatory for children’s passports.
• CRCs for children aged 10 to 18 must now include both photo and biometric data.

NADRA has also elevated the FRC to a legally recognized document, now usable in:

• Inheritance matters
• Court proceedings
• Legal documentation for families

The updated FRC system introduces three family types:

• Alpha – Families by birth
• Beta – Families by marriage
• Gamma – Families by adoption

Each FRC reflects the actual structure of a family, including:

• Parents and siblings
• Married couples with children
• Individuals with multiple marriages (each listed separately)

Applicants must verify the accuracy of data with an assurance statement and may correct or remove entries either via NADRA offices or the Pak ID app.

• Citizens holding illegally obtained CNICs can now return them voluntarily without legal action.
• Married women may now choose to display either their father’s or husband’s name on their records.
