Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sets Deadline for Converting1,200 Villages to Model Villages Initiative

In a bold move to uplift rural Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed officials to set a clear and urgent deadline for the completion of the ambitious Model Villages Project, aimed at transforming 1,200 villages across the province into sustainable, fully developed communities.

What Is the Model Villages Project?

The Model Villages Project, launched under Punjab’s Suthra Punjab and Waste-to-Value initiatives, is a comprehensive rural development scheme. Each selected village will undergo major infrastructural improvements, focusing on public-centric development, modern amenities, and environmental sustainability.

Key Features of Model Villages

As per the official briefings during a high-level meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Saturday, July 26, 2025, each model village will be equipped with:

  • 24/7 Clean Water Supply
  • Underground Sewage Network
  • Modern Waste Management Facilities
  • Paved Streets & Rehabilitated Roads
  • Children’s Parks & Playgrounds
  • Tree Plantation Drives
  • Proper House Numbering & Directional Signboards
  • Solar-Powered Water & Sewage Systems (for energy sustainability)

Progress So Far

Development work in 130 villages has already been successfully completed under the pilot phase. These villages serve as prototypes for the rest of the 1,200 rural settlements that will undergo transformation.

Maryam Nawaz Demands Timely Execution

During the meeting, CM Maryam stressed the importance of setting firm deadlines and emphasized a public-driven approach to development. “The priorities of this project must reflect the needs and aspirations of local communities,” she stated.

She also received briefings on the province’s Clean Punjab campaign and the Waste-to-Value program—two other landmark initiatives running parallel to the Model Villages Project.

Sustainability Through Solar Integration

One of the most innovative aspects of the project is the integration of solar-powered systems for water supply and sewage. This not only reduces dependency on conventional power but also ensures round-the-clock access to essential services in remote areas.

A Vision for a Cleaner, Greener Punjab

The Punjab Government aims to deliver holistic development, enhancing both the infrastructure and livability of villages. CM Maryam reaffirmed her commitment to making these communities cleaner, greener, and more dignified places to live.

The Model Villages Project stands as a powerful symbol of Punjab’s commitment to rural progress, environmental responsibility, and people-first governance. With clear goals, sustainable models, and a results-oriented leadership, this initiative could become a blueprint for rural development not just in Pakistan, but across South Asia.
